I went into this book with low expectations after reading a couple of reviews online. It is an interesting story and perspective on what the author went through during her 18 years in captivity, but it is written in the voice of an 11 year old. She points out at one point in the book that she had been taken out of school in 5th grade, and unfortunately, that's kind of where she's stuck in terms of writing style and editing. I think this book would have been much more compelling had she been allowed some time to mature, finish her education and really reflect on her experience before rushing it to market. I understand that she wanted to get her story out so that the tabloid media would quit hounding her family, but it's sad that she has such an amazing story to tell and was essentially forced into telling it before she could really make sense of the whole experience.
