Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief - Lawrence Wright

This is a really great, thoroughly researched book on Scientology, both its origins (and founder L. Ron Hubbard's life) and current iteration. If you don't know a lot about Scientology, other than that it appears to have made Tom Cruise CRAZY, you should definitely pick this up. The book came about when Mr. Wright was researching his New Yorker magazine article about writer/director Paul Haggis (which you can find here: http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2011/02/14/110214fa_fact_wright) shortly after Mr. Haggis left the church. Mr. Wright contacted the church for their side of the story, and they showed up in his office with a team of high ranking officials and lawyers, and 48 three-ring binders worth of materials. The result is a fascinating look at the inner workings of Scientology.I enjoyed Mr. Wright's writing style a lot and appreciated his attention to detail in this book. I will definitely be picking up The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 next.
